🚨The AI boom is getting harder to justify: Average LLM token cost is down to $1.05 per 1 million tokens, the lowest since December. AI token prices are falling as models become more efficient, while the cost of the infrastructure needed to run them remains enormous. At a $1.75 per million token price, compute costs alone can already exceed the revenue generated by the output. Lower prices mean AI companies need dramatically more usage just to maintain the same revenue, putting increasing pressure on margins and returns. At the same time, the 5 largest hyperscalers are expected to increase combined CapEx by over +50% to a record $1.1 TRILLION in 2027, while their free cash flow estimates continue to fall, with some turning negative. The financing gap is increasingly being filled by debt, with AI-related bond issuance reaching $344 billion this year, more than $200 billion above 2025, and expected to rise further. The AI buildout is now being financed on the assumption that demand will grow faster than efficiency drives prices down. If that assumption breaks, could the AI bubble start bursting through the credit markets first?
