Brian Chesky on how to get to product-market fit through his eleven-star exercise: "When you book an Airbnb, most people leave five stars. But what if you could give six? Six-star, you walk in and your favorite wine is on the table with a handwritten card. Seven-star, there's a limousine at the airport and a surfboard waiting because they know you surf. Ten-star, Elon Musk greets you and takes you to space. It's an exercise in the absurd. You keep pushing to go so absurd, that suddenly six or seven stars doesn't seem crazy at all. The way to get to product-market fit is to create a six or seven-star experience. But you can't create that without going beyond the edge of reality and working backwards. What would be the craziest possible way to blow one customer's mind? Try that. Maybe you can't scale it, but you can probably scale a six-star. That difference between five and six stars is probably the difference between you and a competitor."

Many people think any given ML project is 99% training. In reality, it’s 50% evaluation, 40% data cleaning, 8% integration, and 2% training. The first two set the noise floor for learning. No ML magic matters; the model cannot lower the noise floor, as that’s the optimal bound
SpaceX hitting $2 trillion in market cap...that is irrational. This thing has to go to <$1 trillion in the next 12 months, right? That's my prediction. But I wouldn't touch this stock with a 10-ft pole, short or long. Elon going to Elon and retailers are going to GameStop.

Why Brian still obsesses over recruiting: "Sam Altman (@sama) told me you're going to spend 50% of your time on hiring. I never did. It was my death blow. As a leader, you can choose if you want to spend time hiring or managing. The more time you spend on recruiting, the less time you get to spend on management. The first and last call I make every day is the recruiting team, still. I probably spend two, three hours on it every day. The 2000s, I didn't. I thought it was all about having a recruiting machine, managing people. The great thing is I don't manage as much anymore because the really good people are self managing. People should think about their first employee being a recruiter, not an engineer. Because they are the ones that get you every other person. A company is as good as its people. The difference between the good companies and the great companies are the people."

@mcuban Rule 1-6, 9, and 12 💯 Rule 7 has holes mostly around employee hr and comp and is dated in terms of remote work, rule 8 doesn’t allow for necessary experimentation for example learning new AI tools, and rule 10 and 11 have purpose and breaking them is insignificant.
