The Amerigo Vespucci is sailing toward New York to celebrate, on July 4, the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America. The Vespucci will be there, on a voyage planned long ago, to commemorate our century-old relationship with the United States and the deep friendship that binds our two peoples. She will be there for the 20 million Italian Americans who have helped make that nation great. She will be there to express our gratitude and to remember the 16,757 American soldiers who rest in our cemeteries or remain missing in Italy, at a time when the contribution of the Allies was decisive for the liberation of our country. She will also be there with thoughts of the 13,821 American service members and the 2,575 American civilians, and their families, who work alongside us in Italy every day and are welcomed as brothers in ensuring the security of the Atlantic Alliance. She will be there to remember the sacrifice of the more than 1,000 Italian military personnel who have been killed or wounded in international missions alongside our American allies, NATO, the European Union, and the United Nations, from Afghanistan to the Balkans, as well as our civilians who have served with them. She will be there to reaffirm our shared values, our defense of common ideals, and our determination to continue walking together. She will be there to bring a piece of Italy to a friendly nation on the day of its birth. She will be there with the pride of representing a nation that has honored its values, commitments, and allies—always, every day, for eighty years.

Yesterday, I welcomed Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto to the Pentagon. We reaffirmed the strength of the bilateral defense relationship between the United States and Italy and agreed on the urgent need for NATO allies to increase defense spending, expand defense industrial production, and field combat-credible military forces.

Thanks to funding from the #NRRP, we are continuing to strengthen our ties with more than 80 million Italians and people of Italian descent around the world, bring new resources to local areas, boost tourism and promote the #exports of our businesses. The figures confirm this: there were 7.4 million roots travellers in 2025, spending over 5 billion euros. Abbiamo confermato la solidità del rapporto tra Italia e Stati Uniti nel dominio marittimo e la comune volontà di rafforzare una cooperazione che rappresenta un pilastro della sicurezza dell’Alleanza Atlantica.
