Rhode Island's government is very good at preserving itself and not nearly good enough at delivering results. Some of what is wrong is not a lack of competence. It is a lack of imagination and inquisitiveness. No one is asking the right questions. I have a million questions!

This is why I am running, and I am not in any party. Rhode Islanders have had it. They are done with the empty promises and broken government. They don't want a governor who isn't working hard every day to make things better. If you think things are going great, vote for a party candidate. Rhode Islanders are ready for change! Every person I spoke with at Roger Williams Park tonight loved the fact that I am running as an independent candidate. Democrats said they were ready for change. Republicans said I was their guy. Independents were relieved when they learned I was one of them. Voter fatigue with party candidates is real! I can't wait for the parades!!!!

Reason #3 to support me for Governor of RI: Education - results I have been a strong voice for education reform in RI since 2010. Unfortunately, our results have not improved much. We continue to "graduate" disadvantaged urban-core students with grammar-school-level achievement, almost certainly limiting their success as adults. The status quo is not working for us. Party politicians have done the bidding of union bosses and not pushed hard for the game-changing reforms many of our students and parents need. In fact, these politicians are actively harming the educational outcomes of our neediest students. I will push for those changes - every day if necessary. We must do better - immediately. Expecting better results is not anti-labor - it is pro-student. We must prioritize students' needs in our educational system. The end of the campaign finance quarter is coming. @youmepooneil Charter schools are public schools. The public school district achievement record in most of RI’s urban core is nowhere near great, unfortunately. We need to change that.

Reason #2 to support me for Governor of RI: Education - charter schools Today, Governor McKee, whose signature achievement was the creation of public charter schools, signed a moratorium on those schools. McKee has clearly caved to union pressure. There is no better example of the teachers' unions' stranglehold on political power than the fact that the Senate President, Val Lawson, is also the President of the NEA teachers' union in RI. Charter schools have been a beacon of hope for the parents of students who have struggled in the public school system. 30,000+ students have applied for 3,000+ charter school spots. How dare McKee, Lawson, and the General Assembly prioritize union business over the educational outcomes of students! In my opinion, this misplaced priority of adults over students is the root cause of our educational malfunction. The purpose of our public schools, and the money we pour into them, is to benefit the students, first and foremost. Our elected leaders have lost their way. Too many of our most disadvantaged students are undereducated, which leads to disadvantaged lives as adults. We must break this endless cycle. We have to do better by our students. We should all be outraged by McKee's weakness and the union's brazenness. This is yet another example of how party politicians succumb to the relentless pressure of special interests. I am an independent candidate for governor and am immune to the labor bosses' pressure. The failures of our educational system are harming our most disadvantaged students and families. Please help me help our most at-risk students and families by donating to my campaign.
