@Empty_America Differences in newer homes: - Stricter (or any) seismic code - Fire code (modern wiring, fire rated sheetrock in garage, no balloon framing) - Restricted hazardous materials (lead in paint /plumbing, asbestos, formaldehyde in wood) - PEX plumbing resists freezing and bursting

I've seen several versions of this lead-crime graph. But, wearing my causal inference curmudgeon hat, I added a few more lines. Many other nasty things took similar paths thx to the environmental movement. My point is the graph. Don't get me wrong lead *is* a huge problem. 1/n

Many families are locked into 3% mortgages and renovating their homes. Beware the risks. I know of 2 families that renovated recently and lead poisoned their young children. Here’s an example of a Victorian house that poisoned a whole family, pregnant mom, abortion, dogs, nanny.
