@dcwoodruff @yhdistyminen In what sense is the Colorado governor a YIMBY? I know intricate details of land use and pols in cities I'll never visit, but I couldn't even name the CO governor. I get very excited about YIMBY politicians too, as a bridge to LVT. But nobody talks about the CO governor.

i swear, planners and politicians are so bad at economics. impact fees will burden density from being built, and density is a net positive on city revenue. if we wanted to be real on impact fees, we'd levy the tax on low density and nothing else (@UrbanThree)

@vebaccount A land value tax solves this. (For example, Calfornia relying so much on income and implicitly personal capital gains tax means that their revenue is very intermittent. Of course, reversing stupid things like the Gann limit would also help)

@Marluouuuouu @IDoTheThinking If we are going to pay for universal transit access, I would argue that the best possible tax for that is a land value tax. If there's public investment in fixed transit service, an LVT is the best way to return that uplift in land values to the public. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Geo…

@aarmlovi @TheOmniZaddy Exactly. And removing the rent incentive would also remove the incentive to turn licenses into artificial land, resulting in YIMBYism and the removal of artificial scarcity.
