@JCMKarl Zero reprocessing is the real bar. Custom vocabulary matters more than raw model quality once you say the same product and people names all day.

@slapfishsteve What made you switch? For me the deciding thing was whether it inserts at the cursor instead of opening a window I have to copy out of.
@max_grev Word error rate is the honest metric here, but the one that decides daily use is what happens after the words land: whether you have to fix punctuation and casing by hand. Curious if Auri 4.0 held up there.
@johnvoorhees The thing built-in Mac dictation never solved is the handoff: it keeps listening, so you end up editing stray words instead of writing. Hold-to-talk and insert at the cursor fixes most of that.

@neuroccm @doodlestein On-device transcription is basically there; what's still unsolved is the last inch — getting the cleaned text into the chart or note you're already in, without a window in between. That's an OS-integration problem more than a model one.
@DaveTaylor The ChromeOS one is underrated because it's hold-a-key and the text goes into the field you're already in. Built-in dictation lives or dies on that — the moment you have to copy out of a separate panel, people stop using it.
@abe238 Cleanup models are the easy half. The hard half is latency budget — every extra pass between release-the-key and text-at-the-cursor is felt, so cleanup has to run in the time the paste already costs.
@GeorgeBolyki Handy is the interesting one here — local dictation on Mac is finally good enough to replace typing for long stuff. The detail that decides it day to day is whether text lands at the cursor or in yet another window you copy from.
@xfrjps @WisprFlow Apple's dictation falls over the moment you talk for more than a sentence. On Mac at least you can hold a key and get text at the cursor — mobile keyboards give you no good hold-to-talk affordance at all.
@Stavthal Insert at the cursor in whatever app is focused, and never steal the hotkey after release. Those two decide whether people keep it past week one.
