It is absolutely unacceptable that my union, the @UFT, *boasts* about high voter turnout for contract votes in schools but refuses to allow for leadership election voting to occur in schools, resulting in dismal voter turnout. Hypocrisy in plain sight.
Teaching is damn hard. A lotta folks who criticize us couldn’t teach 1 day in our classrooms leading our kids. Make no mistake: those who can, teach. So when teachers aren’t paid well, many take their talents to a better compensated (and almost always easier) job. @Ed4Excellence
Our latest National #TeacherSurvey found that 75% of teachers—and 84% of teachers of color—favor financial incentives for teachers who receive multiple outstanding evaluations.

Union support is on the rise as per @Gallup, graphed here by @nytimes. Collective bargaining is attractive because it empowers workers. This makes many of our important jobs more sustainable.
The data are clear: last-in, first-out policies fire the most number of teachers, hit low SES schools harder, and let go of more teachers of color. If teaching quality doesn’t matter when we make the hardest decisions, what are we valuing (and what are we not?)? 2/2
For far too long, teachers have been treated as subjects of change rather than as agents of change.
At E4E, we're committed to building teacher power. Read our Declaration & join our growing movement: e4e.org/membership/our…
Teachers deserve time to visit a colleague’s classroom (not at the expense of lunch/prep). If we are serious about improving instruction, we should provide *actual* time for observing the room next door; would offer teachers context-specific and timely feedback from an educator.
"While I don’t yet know where my professional path will take me in the years ahead, I remain committed to the belief that a movement of fearless change agents is the only way to shift entrenched systems of power. I look forward to continuing to be a part of this movement, in some way, with all of you."
More from our Co-Leader, Sydney Morris: e4e.org/blog-news/blog…
@EvanRStone@SydneyE4E Many in the nonprofit space preach about what we must do to make positive change. However, @SydneyE4E listens to the change you say you want, connects it to her vision, and pushes you and herself to live up that ideal. And that makes all the difference. Hats off to you, Syd!
Today is a big day for E4E as our Co-Founder Sydney Morris announced she’ll be stepping down as Co-CEO at the end of 2023. Join us today as we celebrate Sydney for her vision, leadership & steadfast commitment to our work!

It’s a bittersweet moment for our org as we celebrate Co-Founder @SydneyE4E, who announced today she will be stepping down at the end of the calendar year in her role as Co-CEO. Syd, I’ve seen the extraordinary work you’ve led over the last 13+ years to build @Ed4Excellence!
NYC Public Schools will be closed today in observance of #Juneteenth.
We encourage everyone to learn more about how they can celebrate the holiday at the link below:

Teaching in many Blue districts is (too) low risk/low reward. Job security is exchanged for low pay (especially when a district requires a Master’s). This is an imbalance. Less job security (but not none) and higher pay = better for kids and for effective teachers.
HANDS UP for my colleague and former mentee Tiffany Reyes, one of just a handful of Big Apple Award winning teachers in 2023! Staff and students surprised her yesterday with the announcements. She is a middle school math rock star; teacher like her are gold. So proud! @NYCSchools
@ModestTeacher I’m supportive. Teachers should help set the parameters for what it looks like. But eating thousands more for excellent work may help keep top performers, who likely have options in other fields due to their skill.
Special #TeacherAppreciationWeek shout out to @lplachy, my amazing mama who sparked my love of teaching and learning and who will be wrapping up her last year of teaching this June! Here’s to a great last month and to a fulfilling retirement 🤗
Districts + unions continue to miss the point. Here’s the grand bargain: pay *excellent teachers* a lot. They are worth it. And higher education budgets for better results is a deal both sides can accept - and should want. the74million.org/article/los-an…
