These are 6 no-cost marketing strategies to hit $1M ARR
I've worked in VC-backed startups and now at bootstrapped company and one thing I've learned is that some marketing strategies drive growth no matter where you are.
- Build an Incredible Product
As a marketer, I can tell you that great products always beat great marketing. Reach out to 10 people who will test your product. If it’s truly great and fixes even a small problem for them, trust me-they’ll talk. Word-of-mouth marketing is what you want.
-Directories and Reviews
Submit your product to as many directories as you can. I’ve compiled a list of 180 (I’ll attach it in the comments). Along with directories, consider Product Hunt. In my previous startup, launching there helped us gain over 1k users and a lot of media attention.
- Integrations
Integrations are free marketing. They allow you to mention other companies, exchange content (like blog posts), and align your brand with bigger names.
- Sharing on LinkedIn and X
While building your product, build your personal brand as well. Tell your story on social media, share your lessons and your journey, and connect with people. This strategy helped me grow my X account to 11K followers. These people not only tried our products and provided valuable feedback, but they also became great friends. In the end, you learn a lot and build lasting relationships.
- SEO
For example, @chatbase_co relies on SEO as its second-strongest channel. Invest time in optimizing your content and website so potential customers can easily find you.
- Podcasting
I started to co-host a podcast and we built a real business out of it, with companies like PostHog and Sentry sponsoring episodes. If you don’t have your own podcast, reach out to those in your niche. Even smaller podcasts can make a big impact.
If you’re bootstrapping, you might not have a lot of money for marketing, but you can certainly be creative with your resources.
Experiment, learn, and repeat these strategies every day.
