How LLMs work (clearly explained in under 2 mins): 𝟭) 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻𝘀 ↳ LLMs don’t read full sentences the way humans do. They break text into smaller pieces called tokens, which can be words, parts of words, or characters. 𝟮) 𝗧𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 ↳ Each token is converted into a numerical representation, so the model can compare meaning, position, and relationships mathematically. 𝟯) 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 ↳ The model looks at the tokens around it and decides which ones matter most. This is how it connects ideas across a prompt instead of treating every word in isolation. 𝟰) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 ↳ An LLM generates text one step at a time by predicting what should come next based on the context it has seen so far. 𝟱) 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 ↳ Pretraining teaches the model language patterns. Fine-tuning and feedback help it follow instructions, answer questions, and behave more helpfully. The key thing to remember is: an LLM is not searching a database of answers. It's using patterns learned during training to generate the most likely next piece of text, again and again, until a full response forms.
