Pages of the Glorious Qur’ān today, Sunday 30/8/26, Sūrah Tāha (20): 99-125, tafakkur verse 20: 121 Theme: A Fall Does Not Have to Become a Life of Failure فَأَكَلَا مِنۡهَا فَبَدَتۡ لَهُمَا سَوۡءَ ٰ⁠ تُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا یَخۡصِفَانِ عَلَیۡهِمَا مِن وَرَقِ ٱلۡجَنَّةِۚ وَعَصَىٰۤ ءَادَمُ رَبَّهُۥ فَغَوَىٰ “So they both ate from it, and their nakedness became exposed to them, and they began covering themselves with leaves from Paradise. Adam disobeyed his Lord and went astray.” LESSONS: 1. Even the righteous can make mistakes: Ādam عليه السلام was a Prophet chosen by Allāh, yet he slipped. Human excellence does not mean never making a mistake; what matters greatly is what we do after recognising it. 2. Sin often exposes what obedience was protecting: Before the disobedience, Ādam and Ḥawwāʾ enjoyed the covering and security of Paradise. Immediately afterwards, their nakedness became apparent. Disobedience can strip a person of barakah, tranquillity, dignity and spiritual protection. 3. Shayṭān beautifies the action but conceals its consequences: He made the forbidden tree attractive, but he did not show them the shame and regret that would follow. This remains one of his methods: he advertises the pleasure of sin while hiding its price. 4. The Qurʾān teaches accountability without destroying hope: Allāh states plainly: “Adam disobeyed his Lord.” The Qurʾān does not excuse wrongdoing simply because the person is righteous. Yet the story does not end with the sin. The very next verse says: ثُمَّ ٱجۡتَبَـٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَتَابَ عَلَیۡهِ وَهَدَىٰ “Then his Lord chose him, accepted his repentance, and guided him.” (Ṭā-Hā 20:122). This is one of the most beautiful lessons in the story: your worst mistake does not have to become your final identity. 5. The difference is not simply between those who sin and those who do not, but between those who return to Allāh and those who persist. Ādam عليه السلام fell, recognised his error, repented and was guided. Iblīs disobeyed, justified himself and persisted in arrogance. One mistake was followed by tawbah; the other by pride. Never allow a sin to prevent you from returning to Allāh. اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا زَلَّاتِنَا، وَاسْتُرْ عُيُوبَنَا، وَارْزُقْنَا تَوْبَةً نَصُوحًا، وَلَا تَجْعَلْ ذُنُوبَنَا سَبَبًا لِبُعْدِنَا عَنْكَ، وَاهْدِنَا إِلَيْكَ صِرَاطًا مُسْتَقِيمًا. آمين. O Allāh, forgive our mistakes, conceal our faults, grant us sincere repentance, do not allow our sins to become a cause of distance from You, and guide us to the straight path. Āmīn.

Pages of the Glorious Qur’ān today, Saturday 29/8/26, Sūrah Tāha (20): 77-98, tafakkur verse 20: 82 Theme: No Matter the Past, the Door of Allah’s Forgiveness Remains Open وَإِنِّی لَغَفَّارࣱ لِّمَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا ثُمَّ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ “And indeed, I am certainly Most Forgiving to whoever repents, believes, does righteous deeds, and then remains rightly guided.” LESSONS: 1. No sin should make us despair of Allah’s mercy: The emphatic expression “Indeed, I am certainly Most Forgiving”, gives tremendous hope to the sinner. However serious the past may be, sincere repentance can open a completely new chapter with Allah. 2. True repentance requires a genuine change of direction: Allah mentions, “repents.” Tawbah is more than saying astaghfirullāh. It involves regretting the sin, abandoning it, sincerely resolving not to return to it and, where the rights of others are involved, restoring those rights. 3. Faith after repentance must produce righteous action: Allah joins believes with and does righteous deeds. Repentance is demonstrated by what follows it. A transformed heart should increasingly produce transformed behaviour. 4. Starting well is not enough; we must remain guided: The verse ends beautifully with, “then remains rightly guided.” A person may repent today and become enthusiastic about Islam, but the real challenge is istiqāmah: remaining obedient to Allah until death. Guidance is not merely an experience; it is a lifelong journey. 5. Never write off someone because of their past: If Allah declares Himself abundantly forgiving towards the one who sincerely returns to Him, Muslims should not permanently imprison repentant people in their previous mistakes. Someone who was once far from Allah may, through sincere tawbah, become among those closest to Him. اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا، وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا تَوْبَةً نَصُوحًا، وَزَيِّنْ قُلُوبَنَا بِالْإِيمَانِ، وَوَفِّقْنَا لِلْعَمَلِ الصَّالِحِ، وَثَبِّتْنَا عَلَى الْهُدَى وَالِاسْتِقَامَةِ حَتَّى نَلْقَاكَ. آمِين. O Allah, forgive our sins, accept from us sincere repentance, beautify our hearts with faith, enable us to perform righteous deeds, and keep us firm upon guidance and steadfastness until we meet You. Āmīn.
