Yesterday, I rated the late-planted official hybrid trial at Marianna. Not much southern rust but big differences in Curvularia leaf spot. Some hybrids just covered. I'm not aware of data that suggests this disease has caused yield loss in our area. It can be impressive...
Collected data today in our fungicide strip trial at Jefferson Co. Outrageous frogeye leaf spot in the nontreated. We get tremendous data from these on-farm trials.
As if right on cue, and following a rainfall event last week (7/25/26), picking up light levels of areolate mildew (8/1/26) in one of my commercial cotton NPMTI locations #NPMTI @MSUExtService @BPieralisi
Curvularia leaf spot on corn in the SE. Symptoms include small tan spots w\t brown margins with a yellow halo. Lesions observed in the mid/upper canopy. Considered an aesthetic disease & not a yield reducer. It also produces funky-looking spores #Corn @CropNetwork @corndisease

Taproot decline (fungal disease of soybean) symptoms include yellowing/interveinal chlorosis of leaves and premature plant death. Most of roots of plants pulled from soil will snap off with the root system remaining displaying a black fungal growth @baldpathologist @CropNetwork

#Corn drydown questions starting up as we get closer to #harvest26. Hand shelled samples in 2021, under ideal drying conditions, still took ~ 20 days to go from black layer to 18% moisture- roughly 0.5% moisture drop/day.

Southern stem canker inoculations at Rohwer this week. We plant a copy of the official soybean variety trial and inoculate with toothpicks infested with the pathogen to determine if varieties are resistant to the disease. Funding provided by the AR Soybean Promotion Board.
White mold risk across the state still remains high despite a few very warm days. Even though it is hot outside, canopies that are closed will cool down the soil surface and trap moisture that allow for the white mold mushrooms (apothecia) to development.
