You, (and I), have for years fought against quackery and have recommended using the best available scientific evidence for making medical recommendations. For that reason we have been quite critical of the anti vaccine recommendations of Robert F Kennedy, Jr. @RobertKennedyJr and pro quackery recommendations of Memet Oz @DrOz . It is reasonable, however, for a politician to reject evidence from experts discredited by their lack of veracity in other areas (falsus in uno). It is also reasonable for a scientist to do so. A good systematic review must have criteria for studies worthy of review. I agree that RFK has come to the wrong conclusions about vaccines, based upon the best available scientific evidence. The lack of veracity from Anthony Fauci, Dr_AnthonyFauci from medical schools, and from the last two administrations, and the accompanying censorship, is what I believe is largely responsible for the rise in vaccine hesitancy and resurgence of preventable disease. Every medical school in America teaches and sells alternative medicine instead of only recommending scientific medicine. I disagree with criticizing politicians for identifying and doubting the experts and politicians who misled us with falsehoods and censored those who disagreed with them. We must restore the credibility of the medical profession if we hope to promote science based medicine and discourage quackery. We can't make political reasoning scientific, but we can make medical reasoning scientific. We will be more credible if we also acknowledge the good things that @RobertKennedyJr and @DrOz have accomplished, like identifying and fighting fraud

I’ve lost 55+ year friendships for having different opinions about policy. Being vindicated hasn’t brought my friends back; they still believe the same discredited sources they were relying on. They are good, decent, ethical people who still don’t realize they were misled. It used to be safe to disagree with them

No, Polio was paralyzing 30,000 - 60,000 American children annually in the early 1950’s before the vaccine. With the vaccine it declined to about 2,500 in 1960 and less than 20 in 1969. I started elementary school in 1959. We stood in line to get the Polio vaccine. Before that a childhood friend with Polio was in an iron lung. There were whole hospitals filled with children in iron lungs. When I started medical school in 1977 we still called diseases like measles, mumps, rubella, & chicken pox “the usual childhood illnesses” because nearly every child had them before the vaccines were developed in the 1960’s. We all missed a couple weeks of school for each disease, sometimes with terrible permanent consequences from the illness. Millions of children died and more were hospitalized. A few people were still dying from smallpox which was soon to be eradicated by the vaccine. Those Vaccines save millions of lives every year and save more millions from brain damage, sterility, and other terrible disease consequences. We almost never see those diseases in vaccinated children any more. Paralysis and death don’t disappear by changing how a disease is named. You have the luxury of believing that nonsense because of the efficacy of those vaccines

It was a Scottish Surgeon, John Lind, in the British Navy, whose experiment, 20 years before this, showed citrus treated scurvy on voyages, (1747 study, published in 1753). This may have been the first controlled clinical trial in medicine. (Yes, there is Vitamin C in sauerkraut, and it did take a long time for the Navy to adopt it, but it is why they were called limeys).

The most shocking revelation starting practice after Orthpaedic Surgery residency was that without a supervising attending surgeon nobody in the OR was qualified to know if I was doing a good job. None of them had the knowledge or training. They were too busy doing their own job to scrutinize mine
