Really torn about that. It's clearly a foul that leads to the change in possession, but also was so far away from where the actual goal was scored. VAR needs clear, definitive parameters for its use that are transparently relayed to fans and teams, because it's currently a mess.

@TheRobGoldberg I agree that it was a choke job, but the narrative since the Group Stage was that the USMNT had taken the next step. I think it was premature. The talent has improved but the result is largely the same. You gotta beat the big boys to be one.

@TheRobGoldberg The back line and goalkeeper were pretty terrible and the talent gap there was immense imo. That wasn’t just nerves. Some of the other guys, sure, but part of being a serious team on the World stage is showing g up when it matters. They didn’t.

@TheRobGoldberg @ReverschPass The less cynical (but probably incorrect) viewpoint is that this was the only mechanism FIFA had to overturn a call or VAR process they disagreed with. But I also don’t believe FIFA has earned any benefit of the doubt, so yeah, I’m torn haha.
