People might disagree with what @AmericanReform_'s ideas, but is he a careful researcher. He consistently gives a full account of all the available data, whether that be the acts of the magisterium, the teaching of theologians, or the historical record. The impression he gives is one who has the utmost respect for the Church's magisterium and the Roman Pontiffs – accepting their teaching and conforming his mind to it, even when it means accepting (or professing) ideas which are unsavoury to modern and liberal sensibilities. What is more, he brings receipts as a matter of course – and provides them on request or demand when challenged. I'm proud to work with someone like this, whatever his views, and to defend him against unjustified criticism.

Further, @AmericanReform_ is accused of denying the teaching of the Church in what is alleged to have been a condemnation of slavery – and to have maintained this allegedly erroneous position through the selective use of magisterial quotations. I find myself implicated in this charge indirectly, as both @AmericanReform_ and myself wrote articles about this matter recently. For myself, and I believe also AR, the concern was not the defence of slavery but of the Church, against the charge of having changed or contradicted her teaching. It is not possible to wave the difficulties away. This might satisfy oneself or the simple, but others will press on these unresolved or ignored difficulties, and this will be at the cost of souls and the honour of the Church. Readers can judge whether the conclusions on these matters are based on the selective use of texts by reading the below: lifesitenews.com/analysis/the-c… This issue is also thrown into greater relief by comparison with the Church's treatment of gladiatorial blood sports – addressed here: wmreview.org/p/bishop-sanbo… In short, many accusations against oneself or ones friends can just be ignored as noise – but some, particularly when they involved dishonesty or denial of the Church's teaching, or inadequate respect for the Church, need a reply. /End.

As I mentioned in the other tweet, thank you for your clarification. But behind your "whole question" is an assumption that they are wrong, and that what you call the "living Church" is indeed not a "parallel, fake and modernist-apostate Church". I suggest to you that an impartial examination of the four marks of the Church, as traditionally understood, exclude the conclusion that this "living Church" is the Catholic Church. In fact, this conclusion is untenable. I appreciate that in many cases, that claim is merely waved away as absurd. That's the prerogative of those who do so – but they should be aware that waving something away as absurd is not an impartial examination.

But I suspect your bad experiences with trads pale in comparison to the bad experiences trads have had at the hands of the post-conciliar clergy – often before they embraced ideas like those mentioned in your clarification.
