My wife and I own Forest Park Pharmacy, and we don't accept insurance. None of it. That decision is exactly why we could fix what happened to a patient today. A family came in wanting to transfer their kid's antibiotic to us. The child had already STARTED the course. Then, mid-treatment, the insurance company decided the last 14 tablets suddenly needed a "prior authorization" before the other pharmacy could hand them over. A sick kid, halfway through an antibiotic, and the answer was "please hold." The drug is linezolid. It's a generic. It's been generic for over a decade. It treats serious gram-positive infections — the kind you do NOT want to stop antibiotics in the middle of, because an interrupted course is how you breed resistant bugs and end up right back where you started. So why the hold-up on a cheap, common generic? Follow the fake math. Insurance and the PBMs behind them price drugs off a number called AWP — "Average Wholesale Price." People in my industry have another name for it: "Ain't What's Paid." It's a benchmark number, not a real-world cost. On paper, the AWP for just those last 14 tablets is about $2,500. My cash price for the same 14 tablets? $18. Read that again. The system that's supposedly "protecting" this family from cost is the same system that inflated an $18 medication into a $2,500 line item, then slapped a prior auth on it to "review the expense" THEY invented. They manufactured the problem, then billed everyone for the privilege of solving it — and made a sick kid wait while they did it. This is the whole game. When a drug is priced honestly, there's nothing to "manage." When it's priced off a fantasy benchmark, you get spread pricing, PA paperwork, pharmacy phone trees, and delayed treatment — all dressed up as cost control. Here's the part nobody tells you: roughly 90% of prescriptions are low-cost generics. For the vast majority of what people pick up every day, running it through insurance does two things — raises the real cost and risks delaying your care. That's it. That's the value-add. That's why we fired the insurance companies. No middleman deciding your kid can't finish their antibiotics on schedule. No fake prices. Just the real number, on the shelf, today. The medication was always cheap. The insurance was the expensive part.

Fact: Iowa DL Noah Shannon placed ONE $10 bet on an Iowa women's BB game, admitted it, and was suspended for the season by the NCAA. 1. He bet on games in which he was a rostered member of the team and had insider knowledge of the program. It's less sinister than betting on games in which he was starting QB, but still a disqualifying decision—particularly after placing thousands of bets 2. Okay, he's not a Texas Tech alum or Lubbock guy, he's a Texas lifer. At any rate, clearly a friendly court for a CFB program in Texas 3. Texas Tech did nothing wrong!? Tech has known about Sorsby's gambling since April and had every intention of playing him. When the NCAA rightly suspended him, Tech backed the play to try to get a judge to overrule the NCAA Tech can end its association with Sorsby at any time. Sorsby is not a victim, nor is Tech. They have full agency in everything they've done

The NCAA has officially filed a Notice of Appeal in the Brendan Sorsby case. It’s described as an “accelerated appeal” made to the Court of Appeals for the Seventh District of Texas. More detailed briefs are expected to follow.

This quote from an anonymous Big 12 coach is incredible. That’s exactly what the ruling today means. If the NCAA can’t win the appeal or severely punish Texas Tech for this, players gambling is not only allowed now, but they’re probably going to intentionally use it.

I remember the day my dad got laid off. He came home early. Sat at the kitchen table. Didn’t say anything for a long time. 28 years at the same company. $52,000 a year. Same desk. Same commute. Same handshake every Christmas party. They called him into HR on a Tuesday morning and handed him a folder. 2 weeks severance. $2,000. A COBRA packet at $1,400 a month he couldn’t afford and a thank you for your service. He was 54. Too young for Medicare. Too old to start over. Too proud to tell us how scared he was. He spent the next 4 years working part time jobs at $14 an hour. Not to retire comfortably. Not to build anything. Just to keep health insurance so a hospital bill wouldn’t finish what the layoff started. 28 years. $1.4 million in value given to that company. And they never called to check on him once. I will never forget that kitchen table moment. That’s when I learned that no company will ever love you back.

Something I noticed when I visited China was public schools always started their days off with a run. A school in Naperville, Illinois, did an experiment on this and called it "Zero Hour". Before school, students would hit the gym at 7am and push their heart rates to 80% of their max. Then went on to do class. The result? Reading scores doubled. Math scores jumped 20x. On an international test, Naperville 8th graders finished 1st in science (beating Singapore) and 6th in math globally. Some of my entrepreneur clients swear by doing cardio in the morning. They say it keeps their brain sharp. I don't disagree. Cardio isn't just for your heart. It's brain fuel. Exhaust the body to sharpen the mind.
