Last thing I’ll say on this topic, because it’s time to move on: A number of Muslim scholars were rounded up and imprisoned over the last decade, especially in the Gulf, precisely because they were major advocates of global Muslim unity. That matters because if the idea of the Ummah were as fake, sterile, or politically meaningless as some of you claim, these regimes would not spend so much energy crushing the people who call Muslims back to it. One example is Salman al-Ouda in Saudi Arabia, who was arrested in 2017, placed in solitary confinement, and had travel bans imposed on members of his family after he refused to obey an order from Saudi authorities to tweet a statement supporting the Saudi-led blockade of Qatar. He is still imprisoned to this day. But that barely registered outside Muslim circles, because at the time Western secularists were too busy praising MbS for his supposed “liberal reform” of Saudi Arabia. So you’ll excuse me if I don’t take seriously critiques of Muslim political imagination from people whose geopolitical worldview seemed to revolve around judging states by how lax they were on alcohol, nightclubs, and Western-style entertainment.
The "ummah" never existed and if it did than it has been and is one of the most sterile and castrated structures wrt political efficiency and shaping reality... Even the gaza flotilla was not initiated by the so called "ummah"
New haul, all works from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Mostly poetry, with a book on Greek grammar, one on Latin, a collection of French oral stories, and plays.
@ovalposedl36539 @Cyangreener It’s in reference to the Din vs. Dunya distinction which mostly isn’t real. Dunyawi affairs can all have a religious dimension. The “secular” here refers to worldly matters and isn’t to be confused with secularism.
Finally someone said this All the Low-IQ discourse that come from islamic political thought (if you could even call it that) comes from them asserting Marxist/capitalist/Austrian [Insert ideology] views onto Quranic Texts & make logic leaps accordingly Pretending that certain verses/hadith texts validate THEIR specific configuration of political ideals & all the baggage that come with it, as if resource allocation + policy + central/decentralized planning are theological by nature “‘Islam endorses dialectical materialism because X verse and hadith, therefore communism’” “‘Islam is capitalistic because Y verse and hadith, therefore laissez faire markets’”

@Omarnksa Yeah these are good steps. Walkability needs more work but I think Vision 2030 is going in that direction. We’ll see how it turns out.
People romanticize past situations but I don’t want to experience Hajj like my ancestors did. We live in an age of globalization with many performing Umrah more than once a year with the Haramayn being more accessible than they ever have been. These developments were necessary.
I will never experience hajj like my ancestors did and I won't forgive Saudi for that
