Democrats are finally starting to feel the panic in the donor class, and it’s beautiful to watch. For years the big money and the consultant class thought they could keep the radical left on a leash. Use them for energy, use them for street muscle, use them to scare suburban Republicans, but never let them actually run anything. That deal is dead. The Mamdani-DSA crowd just proved they can win real power in deep blue territory, and the people writing the checks are suddenly realizing they may no longer be the ones calling the shots. This is what happens when a coalition built to oppose Trump starts eating itself instead. The donor wing wants to keep things presentable enough to win swing voters and protect their interests. The activist wing wants to burn the whole thing down and replace it with something much uglier. Those two goals were never compatible, and now the mask is off. What makes it worse for them is that the radicals are no longer hiding behind soft language. They’re running as open socialists and winning. That matters. Communism and hard socialism are politically weak when they have to operate under their real names instead of hiding behind “progressive” branding and vague anti-corporate slogans. Once regular Democratic voters and donors are forced to pick a side between the donor class and the open radicals, the whole coalition becomes more fragile, not stronger. The anti-Trump machine was supposed to stay united against a common enemy. Instead it’s burning time, money, and political capital fighting over who actually controls the party in its safest districts. Every primary that turns into an internal war is one less resource available for anything else. They didn’t just lose three races in New York. They exposed how brittle the entire coalition really is once the mask comes off. (article below)
