Sad, sad news. Jurassic Park is the first hit movie to come to mind, Hunt for the Wilder People a triumph closer to home. He always seemed so charming and down to earth all at once. A beloved Kiwi, Sam did us proud.

Good for you, brother. I went cold turkey about 18 months ago—I stopped watching almost all movies, fictional TV shows, and books for adults, because they cause me to stumble. Instead I started reading theology books and the Bible. I have never known such incredible spiritual vitality, there’s no looking back. I am now occasionally willing, with caution, to watch something that’s clearly family friendly, after asking around. Project Hail Mary was my first “grown up” movie in that time. But the blessing of the alternative is amazing. I also believe the Lord led me into a rich new vein of material he had prepared for me—a deeply Jewish understanding of our faith. “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.” Isaiah 55:1-2 NIV

I feel like the momentum is shifting strongly toward an independent, multilateral Middle Eastern pact as the solution—one initiated by the nations themselves, as opposed to the Abraham Accords. Everyone sees the need for a solution and will also increasingly recognise that Iran and the US are at an impasse. The unravelling of the ceasefire and threat of re-escalation only makes it more urgent. An independent, region-initiated agreement becomes the only answer… and everyone will want it. The underlying diplomatic conditions are there. I also come back to the “astonishment” of Revelation 17:8. Things could be resolved in a sudden and unexpected way, just when it all seems intractable.
