AI is programmed/trained on the data set of the organization that paid for that AI. Biased consensus. Biased recommendation. Biased ads. Sin of social media - AI generated sorting and consensus. AI driven tribalism is fake shared belief.

@balajis It's the most bizarre phenomenon, isn't it? Making speech easier ends up decreasing freedom of speech for the reasonable, because it gives the unreasonable a way to attack them. Obvious in retrospect, but I wouldn't have predicted it.

@PerBylund Why don't you build a mini-economy to test this? you can do it with students, or with software. set up the monetary rules and a transaction system and test what happens with no meddling.

@PerBylund in a price freefall, what do you do? hoard cash until the price bottoms out. Banks will hoard cash. Lending and buying simply stops. the solution to cash hoarding is increase the money supply.

@PerBylund inflation reduces the value of debt assets. deflation does not deflate debt based assets - but induces defaults -ameliorated by sufficient money supply. imagine lowering the min wage. instant deflation. defaults skyrocket as labor prices decline. asset prices fall. lending stops.

@PerBylund Central banks/gov meddle w/money supply by default. Not printing money is meddling. The deeper issue is likely debt. Assets owned central banks et. al. require general price stability to prevent defaults. Defaults lead to deflation and further defaults leading to no lending.

@dux @PerBylund there are way more transactions than $. if you look at the Feds balance sheet and read their pubs it appears they try to improve the flow of activity. more transactions and more diverse economic activity -> more stability - seems to be the basic Fed goal.
