At the Zhongguancun Forum Annual Conference 2026, robots poured drinks, played the piano, and even performed a lion dance—no science fiction required. They greeted visitors, introduced themselves at information desks, and displayed skills like threading a needle. What looked like entertainment hinted at something real: technologies once confined to labs are finding their way into everyday life. The setting itself tells part of the story. Zhongguancun—often called China’s “Silicon Valley”—is not just a place but an ecosystem: a hub of research institutes, universities, startups, and venture capital. It’s where Lenovo, Baidu, and Xiaomi first took root. The name dates back centuries—literally “Zhongguan Village”—but over the past few decades it has come to stand for something else: the power to turn research into industries, and industries into global names. That transformation is exactly what the ZGC Forum has tracked since 2007. Nearly two decades on, it has grown into a gathering of more than 1,000 guests from over 100 countries, spread across a hundred-plus events. The agenda this year cuts straight to the edge: 6G, brain–computer interfaces, gene therapy—fields where science meets industry before the terms even settle. International collaboration runs through it all. And those robots at the entrance? They aren’t just a welcome act. They’re a glimpse of how fast the future moves once it leaves the drawing board.
