When I worked at Apple, I remember seeing code that was 15 years old. Every file had a comment at the top with the date and the author’s name. You’d open a file and read through it, sometimes touching a feature no one had touched in a decade. Everything felt very permanent, like a house made of bricks. Everyone who made a brick put their name on it before slotting it into the house. Even in a massive company, you were proud of your bricks. Each one fit so satisfyingly into the bricks around it. When someone was renovating a room you had worked on years ago, they’d reach out and say, “I found this brick with your name on it. Can you tell me what it was doing here?” Sometimes old bricks would get taken out during a renovation, but they were usually kept in a pile in the corner to reuse in the future. Now you can will whole houses and neighborhoods into existence. You don’t even see the bricks go in. They just tumble in from the sky. You walk into the new house and wave your hands to push walls back, throw up a chimney, or drop in a kitchen. It's so fucking cool. But you forget what a brick feels like. And it’s hard to know how sad to be about that. The houses are better, they go up faster, and building them increasingly feels like magic. Still, every once in a while you miss holding a brick.

Actually devastating because the people using Coldcards were the biggest most security conscious type of Bitcoin holder. They were the ones who believed so much in the mission of Bitcoin that they actually learned how to set up a Coldcard. The true believers got rugged. Very sad.

At this point I'm running every possible agent harness on multiple machines like a maniac (Opencode, Pi, Claude, Codex, Hermes ...) So if I want to add an MCP server, I have to configure it like 10+ times Is there a solution for this?

I came back to code because AI made it possible for me to build at a level I couldn't before. I'm not coding despite being CEO of YC. I'm coding because this is the most important technological shift since the internet and I'd be an idiot to experience it from the bleachers. I'm 45, running the most important startup institution in the world, and I can ship production software at 2am. That's not a distraction from the job. That is the job understood correctly.

Nearly every ambitious person I know who has dived into AI is working harder than ever, and longer hours than ever. Fascinating dynamic tbh. I have NEVER worked this hard, nor had this much fun with work.

This is a dopamine loop, and it’s one of the most powerful ones humans have ever encountered. Every time you prompt an AI and get a useful result back in seconds, your brain gets a hit. Variable-ratio reinforcement, same mechanism as slot machines, except the reward is real: actual output, actual progress, actual leverage on your ideas. Traditional work follows a delayed-reward structure. You write code for 6 hours, maybe it compiles, maybe you get feedback in a week. The gap between effort and reward is wide enough that motivation decays constantly. AI compresses that loop to seconds. Effort → reward → effort → reward. Your prefrontal cortex stays engaged because the next payoff is always one prompt away. This is why people describe it as “fun” when they’re actually working 14-hour days. The subjective experience of effort disappears when reward frequency is high enough. The “harder than ever” part is real too. When your bottleneck shifts from execution to imagination, you run out of excuses to stop. There’s no “waiting on the build” or “blocked by review.” Every idea you have can be tested immediately, which means your brain never gets a natural stopping point. People who thrive on this are selecting for a specific neurotype: high novelty-seeking, high conscientiousness, tolerance for rapid context-switching. That’s maybe 10-15% of the population. The other 85% will experience the same tools as overwhelming, not energizing. And that split is going to define the next decade of who captures value from AI and who gets displaced by it.

@DevLeaderCa DotTrace is my best friend! By far my favourite tool. Turns out LLMs are very good at optimizing performance issues if you give them a poor performance stack tree as well! I spent the last couple of days 10xing some APIs on my app!
