@PoltFan69 @BigDonII This is silly. Morrowind is a much better RPG but the dungeon design in Skyrim is clearly much better. A 4 minute walk back through the 84th cave, sewer or ancestral tomb adds literally nothing for anyone. The only place Morrowinds dungeons shine is secret hand placed loot.

@rainbowpavement Because it’s very difficult. Ask computer has done a better job copying Elden ring than most of those DS-combat mods. I agree and would never use one of these, but if we get good “Skyrim-like” combat as a mod it’ll be AI mimicking Mordhau or something.

Until you’re at Firemoth, or doing the end of Bloodmoon, or doing Tribunal. The game has very inconsistent difficulty, a sane levelling system would help with that, instead of making it so that you either power game and blow through the game, or don’t and can’t approach most of it.

Love Morrowind deeply, it might be my favourite ever game, but this system was pretty bad. The fact that non major/minor skills don’t contribute to levels is deeply unintuitive, and the need to carefully ensure each attribute is getting x5 doesnt work well with the “learn by doing” system at all. Certain skills will lag far behind others, you’ll fail to level attributes appropriately, and the only way to make it feel like you’re not failing is to abuse it with Tribunal merchants/Mudcrab merchant and trainers. EXP for quests and enemy kills, and letting the player just distribute points into skills, attributes and maybe even perks would be far better.

@DalgiRatte @daniels_bukola I agree it looks funny but if he was putting rotation into his punches they’d be slower. He’s pitter-pattering because he wants to land lots of shots and win a decision, he isn’t quick enough or powerful enough to stand and bang properly against his opponent.

No I don’t think Vivec achieved CHIM. The sermons are both a propaganda piece and a secret offloading of guilt, none of that happened. Vivec wasn’t a divine egg that convinced Nerevar to follow him, he was a low status netchermans son and a bandit who followed Nerevar. The entire point of the early part of the sermons is to pretend that Vivec was destined to Godhood, but the same daedra he claims came to bless him before birth as a predestined deity actually cursed him and hated him when he betrayed Nerevar to take power. We see Talos who actually achieved CHIM and he’s substantially different to Vivec and the Tribunal. The Tribunal abuse the power of a potent relic to pretend to be Gods. I think a dominant theme with Vivec as the first (and only in the base game) Tribunal member we encounter is that his Godhood and enlightenment are surface level and presentational.

I think the jungle -> temperate forest change is a bit more of a silly retcon that had to be patched over. Agree with the rest though the world as a whole, the cities the dark elf culture the temple and houses etc are all extremely compelling. It’s very sad that modern TES didn’t continue to be higher tech versions of Morrowind in different locations.

FromSoft hides fairly simple stories in vague explanations and item descriptions. TES, prior to modern Bethesda, was infused with genuine occultism, Gnosticism, and bits of Eastern religions, a large amount of which was sublimated rather than imitated. Read the 36 lessons of Vivec. If you learn enough about the lore to fully understand it, and it is all fully intelligeble and coherent despite first impressions, and you’ll see what a piece of art the lore of this game was.
