As we approach peak electricity demand in the 13-state Mid-Atlantic region, at 7am this morning less than six percent of electricity generation was coming from renewables. Over 91 percent of generation is coming from gas, nuclear and coal—keeping our air conditioners blasting.

⚡ Today I had the opportunity to participate in a panel at Rowan University discussing what it takes to build the energy infrastructure and generation needed to power New Jersey’s future. As demand continues to grow from data centers, manufacturing, businesses, and communities, we must focus on getting projects built, strengthening our grid, developing our workforce, and ensuring we have the reliable and affordable energy needed to support economic growth. The future won’t power itself. It takes planning, investment, and action. ⚡ Electricity prices, reliability, and accountability are now front-and-center in Washington. Governors are heading to the White House this week to unveil a multi-state agreement aimed at curbing rising power prices across the PJM Interconnection region. Key elements reportedly include: • Temporary limits on capacity price spikes • New approaches to ensure enough generation comes online • Greater responsibility for large new electricity loads to support grid reliability • Faster pathways to build power plants and infrastructure where capacity is short With electricity demand surging — driven by data centers, manufacturing, and electrification — this moment underscores a basic reality: affordability and reliability must move together. Short-term relief is important, but long-term solutions require building new generation, strengthening transmission, and aligning costs with those driving demand. This is a conversation every state, utility, large load, and policymaker should be engaged in.

Today, the plants generate more than 40% of the electricity produced in New Jersey, comprise more than 80% of the state’s carbon-free generation and employ over 1,600 people in South Jersey.
