Search is full of ads and wrong answers. Every other email is an ad. Prime Video charges you and shows ads. Paramount? Ads. Peacock? YouTube? Hulu? Ads followed by more ads. Netflix full of ads. Meta and X, every other thing is an ad. Pinterest is nothing but ads. AI is in
I think about this tagline for Field Notes at least once a week: “I'm not writing it down to remember it later. I'm writing it down to remember it now.” As AI meeting transcriptions become increasingly common, this tagline got me thinking... I wonder how many of us feel tempted to leave our proverbial pen and paper on our desk, or worse, skip the meeting altogether, in favor of reading the transcript summary later. If that feels familiar, I have an invitation for you. Don't skip the meeting, and don't stop taking notes. Let the transcript capture what was said, and adjust your note-taking to record what you thought. Consider all of the things that go on in a meeting that center around context, emerging ideas, and questions worth following up on. The things that actually drive deeper discussion and collaboration. Those moments in a meeting matter deeply, and they only exist if you're present to notice them. It might sound cheesy, but the next time you feel tempted to "check out" in your team's weekly check-in, remember that meeting needs you. The people in that meeting need you. Use the transcript by all means. Just don't let it become a reason to be absent. P.S. The article linked below triggered my thought above.
