Good move by @JensenHuang. The Nvidia letter is well written and worth reading. As we saw with the OpenAI-Hugging Face hack, we need open models and harnesses for defense. Lets stop believing the PR that closed models are safer. - that's just regulatory capture.

Attackers have frontier AI. Defenders need a frontier AI ecosystem—the best open and closed models, force-multiplied by a global community. During the Hugging Face incident, closed AI blocked essential forensics. An open-weight frontier model helped contain the intrusion.

So proud of our security team! They caught, contained & publicly disclosed an attack unlike anything we've seen before, and did it at record speed. Also massively grateful to @Zai_org: they shared GLM5.2 as open weights (for free!) with the world and it became a key part of our defense. This is day one for cybersecurity in the age of agents & we're all learning that secrecy is not the answer & that all defenders (not just a few selected ones) everywhere need more powerful models without restrictions, especially open ones!

A study from @Stanford showed that 71.3% of chatgpt queries could be accurately answered by a local model. I suspect a major part of enterprise AI workloads could be run locally too for free (compared to the massive costs of frontier API cost). Also, it reduces the risk of these workloads being taken away from you because you own the models instead of renting them - which sounds like a good idea these days haha. That's why we're introducing the ability for everyone to filter AI models on @huggingface based on your local hardware. For me, there are 800k+ public models that fit on my M5 24GB and that I can use easily thanks to llamacpp. Let's go local AI!

We just crossed $100M annual run-rate. I know many AI companies are capturing much more $$$ these days, but still proud of the milestone! Maximizing short-term revenue has never been our priority. In fact, we're proud to manage to store and serve hundreds of petabytes of models and datasets while keeping HF free and open-source for 97% of our users. As a platform, we’re happy to hopefully create orders of magnitude more value for the community than what we capture. To me, that’s the very definition of a platform. And it has helped us build one of the most loved platform in tech, with network effects, a defensible position and a sustainable business which is quite unique in AI. Many many thanks to all the community members for building with us, we wouldn't be anywhere without you! Can’t wait for what’s next, especially as more companies start to see the value of open and local AI! Next milestone $1B?
