I love the parable of talents: The master gives 3 of his servants some cash and asks them to look after it, to multiply it. 2 of the guys invest it. The other gets a bit scared and buries it in the backyard. It’s a big responsibility. He just didn’t want to invest it wrong or lose it. Then the master comes back and asks the guys how he went with the cash. The 2 that invested it, made it grow, was seen favourably. The master then went on to give more cash and more responsibilities Meanwhile. The guy who hid it in the backyard. He made some excuses. But the master was kinda annoyed at him. Ended up banishing him. I’m reminded of this parable a lot in my journey. And for me the lesson is simple: It’s not that god just favours some more than others. It’s about how you, as the servant, handle that trust/wealth/talent. And it’s not just cash. It can be your skills. Or whatever gifts you’ve been given. Never use it, never be faithful, and it doesn’t grow.
