@thsottiaux completely unrelated, but in early 3d games instead of computing real shadows, developers attached a 2D circle texture to the bottom of the character's feet.
@autonomicagame Immersion > accuracy. In a fantasy world, footstep audio just needs to feel tactile, grounded, and satisfying to listen to for dozens of hours.
