The humiliating defeat of the BJP in the Bankipur by-election is politically significant. This was a seat vacated by the BJP's national president and one the party had held for over three decades. Preliminary estimates indicate that its vote share has dropped by 28 per cent. Coming in the backdrop of the recent students protests, the verdict demonstrates that arrogance, divisive politics and anti-people policies can and will be challenged. The people have sent a clear message - they seek accountability, not authoritarianism. I would also like to congratulate Prashant Kishore for his maiden victory. The task now is to carry this momentum forward by strengthening people's struggles and forging the broadest unity of Left, democratic and secular forces to defeat the communal-corporate agenda across the country.

A physicist I know worked through the whole NPTEL series and rates it above the western courses he paid for. Free on YouTube, 17 years online, low resolution, no marketing. The teaching was never concentrated in the famous universities.

The Delhi High Court's verdict in the #NewsClick case is a major setback for the BJP that misuses central agencies to suppress political dissent. The action against NewsClick and its editor, Prabir Purkayastha, was an attempt to silence critical journalism and democratic voices. This is a victory for democratic rights and press freedom over the fascist politics of the Sangh Parivar.

Heartily welcome the Delhi High Court verdict quashing the FIR registered by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police and the subsequent Enforcement Directorate case against Newsclick and its Editor-in-Chief, Prabir Purkayastha. The Court noted that the proceedings were “mala fide”, an “arbitrary attack” without “a whisper of any incriminating allegation”, and amounted to “a gross abuse of the process of law”. The judgement exposes the blatant lies concocted by the Union Government in collusion with central agencies to target independent journalism that unapologetically took a pro-people stand. The farcical UAPA case and other proceedings against Newsclick and Purkayastha should be withdrawn immediately, and the outlet and its journalists must be compensated for the injustice inflicted upon them. Congratulations to Prabir Purkayastha and the journalists and workers of Newsclick. May your brand of journalism continue to thrive!
