this is a good point, C(a, b) makes sense mathematically but i still don't really like it because i think homsets are mentally compartmentalized differently from regular two argument functions, and the notation should reflect that x.com/diracdeltafunk…

@qualiascript @quinnswm If you'd like, you *can* think of C as a function, that is being applied to the tuple (a,b) to produce the hom-set C(a,b). That was always allowed (and in fact is the way some people define categories!)

sorta dunked on myself here by forgetting "easily parsable" can be read as "easy to understand" what i mean is (a, b) overloads tuple notation and C(a, b) overloads function application notation, which risks making parsing some formula potentially ambiguous, imo unnecessarily

@quinnswm i think you're missing the point. i understand the notation, sure, but out of context C(a,b) could easily be a function application and (a,b) a tuple. it wouldn't be necessarily easily parsable given some context in which they would be used
