@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers Sorry for the rant - obviously pent up anger. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk 😅 /post

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers Still not super excited about this trade. Going into the offseason knowing we need some tweaking while tethered to Jarry and his contract. Jackson/Bowman regime has made some nice moves for some depth pieces but they’ve made some horrible decisions that will hurt us for years.

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers I see Jarry and Frederic as a $9M albatross that the next GM needs to get off our books… so we can at least manage the overhead of the Nurse, Walman, and Campbell overpayments (value on Hyman, RNH, and McDavid at least helps with that).

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers I see the identity Holland brought here of size, speed and skill with a compliment of experience in a lot of the up and coming teams right now - Anh, Buf, TB, Utah, Ott, SJ, Mtl, Min - I miss it.

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers What is the future? What’s the identity? It seems maybe smaller, cerebral skill guys like Savoie, Howard, Hutson complimented by depth checkers like Dach, Jones, Frederic, Lazar, and Clattenburg when 97, 29 and 2 are not on the ice?

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers But… trading for an injured Frederic then extending him, Jarry, Walman extension, Mangiapane, Henrique extension, Jeff Skinner, Arvidsson, and Holloway+Broberg all tilt the scales to the negative. Strongly. The Jackson-Bowman duo mirrors Chiarelli. Death by a thousand cuts.

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers Nice to see Draisaitl, Bouchard and McDavid extend and they got out of the last year of Kane’s contract with a sneaky trade.

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers I like the approach of finding players in Europe or College (although slightly overhyped IMO - we’d found depth guys like Caggiulla and Benning this route in the past), and the acquisitions of Podkolzin, Kapanen, Samanski, Ingram and Roslovic were all solid value pickups.

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers But it’s not just the one move. Even when we got good players we often seem to overpay - Savoie, Dickenson+Dach, Walman, Howard. Some real positives with Jackson/Bowman - drafting and development seems stronger (still early),

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers There will be a ton of middling (Ingram, Montebault, Hill) and up & coming goalies on the market this summer IMO and our G budget is already spent for the duration of McDavid’s term.

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers We definitely had cost certainty because we are certainly going to be the team that pays that contract. I see Kulak as a guy that was a fantastic asset for the Pens at the deadline. I see the Penguins with the ability to walk away from Skinner this summer.

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers I can see you haven’t changed your mind on Jarry and that’s fair. You see that Kulak + Skinner make the same amount as Jarry. My take is that Connor sees his hometown discount given to the guy that opens the gate for the players.

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers … where the contributions seemed to match the relative cost. Overall team moved forward and you knew the identity - big, fast, and skilled with a compliment of experience and toughness.

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers …Broberg & Holloway picks, Foegele, Kane, Perry, Janmark, Kulak, Henrique, Smith, Bjugstad, Pickard, Barrie, Archibald, Mike Smith and RNH extension all tipped the scales to the positive. Lots of middling moves sprinkled in like your Devin Shores, Connor Browns and Duncan Keiths

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers Totally agree. All GMs make bad moves, it’s the balance that you evaluate. If this is about Holland - Athanasiou, plus the Nurse, Kassian, Turris, and Campbell contracts were worst moves IMO and their drafting & analytics was sub-par. But Ekholm, Hyman, trading Lucic for Neal,…

@dguy_t @Bob_Stauffer @EdmontonOilers We didn’t need to extend. Both of them being on expiring contracts made them very good assets at the trade deadline. We are locked in with Jarry, like it or not. My fingers are crossed but super anxious about it. This is a good read from the other side: nytimes.com/athletic/68851…

@JasonGregor Really bad imo. Dependability is greatest ability. Jarry has inconsistent play and health. His salary and limited NMC further ties our hands through the life of McDavid’s extension. Big risk. Kulak is $$$ in the playoffs and would be in demand at deadline. Waste of an asset.

@EdmontonOilers Is trading a playoff stud dman for (at best) a lateral on-ice move but downgrade in salary, health, and age what happens when you hand out no trade clauses like piñata candy?
