Tomorrow will be my last day at Google after 27 years, and watching it grow from 25 people to 190,000+ has been an amazing journey. Below is a note I shared with many people internally at Google today. An excerpt is: It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you and to help build some of the most widely used and impactful products of all time. As a kid, I dreamed of helping build software that would be used by many people, and Google now has thirteen products used by more than a billion people (amazing!). Our work has had a tremendous impact in the world, and I have been lucky enough to collaborate and form friendships with many colleagues that I deeply admire, respect, and enjoy. It still brings me joy every time I see people out in the world using our products to find information, handle email, translate documents, watch videos, learn new things, navigate and understand the physical world, browse the web, use their phone, run large-scale computations on our infrastructure, ride in an autonomous vehicle, or perform complex tasks with the help of our AI systems. I hope you all share this sense of joy, because it is a shared accomplishment! Thank you to all of my colleagues at Google over many years! Exactly right. It is becoming increasingly clear that humans auditing every line - or even most - of AI generated code is an impossible goal. We do need to come up with a better verification method though, and as I’ve mentioned before having one AI auditing another has worked pretty well for me. This only becomes an issue if there is not enough diversity in the top models. A model that has been distilled from another model will not do.

Imagine being a mathematician, you work on a problem for 10 years and AI solves it in an hour. At least chess players still get to play against other humans.

1. This is incredible. 2. For the first time, AI solved a problem that I have spent time working on (multicolor Ramsey numbers) which makes this hit harder. 3. As far as AI math breakthroughs go, these problems feel much closer to being real-world applicable. Makes me wonder if they are trying to move in that direction. 4. This is just really incredible.

Only if education could be this interactive ❤️‍🔥 I've had a looong wish to build something genuinely useful through vibe coding, and I finally did it. A 3D human anatomy application built with @threejs using GPT 5.6 Sol. It all started with a single design image that I created using GPT Image 2.0. I then used it to generate every 3D organ image, one by one. Next, I converted each of those images into 3D models using @tripoai (and no, they didn't sponsor this 😄). After that, I opened Codex, wrote a master prompt based on the design, and gave it the prompt, the design image, and all the 3D models. Codex built the first version beautifully, but there was one big problem. Every single 3D model was nearly 120-150 MB. That obviously wasn't practical for the web and was giving a performance of 16fps. After a few iterations, Codex optimized each model down to roughly 2–5.5 MB while preserving the visual quality, reducing the total asset size from ~900 MB to just 28.6 MB. And each model loads on demand. Along the way, Codex also generated those anatomical illustrations showing where each organ sits in the human body, and even created the interactive hotspot markers that explain different parts of every organ. It handled all of that. The process wasn't exactly one shot, but it also wasn't difficult. You just have to do it step by step. It genuinely felt like building something that could make learning anatomy much more engaging. The inspiration came from @DilumSanjaya's 3D animal plant cell project. I’ve spent well over 10,000 hours studying math in my life, yet I can’t understand these proofs, at least not without weeks of digging deep into each topic. What’s more, none of my math PhD friends know much about these problems either, and they can’t verify most of them without working directly in the field (yes, math is VERY diverse). LLMs are getting smarter than the experts themselves, and I’m not sure we have enough bright human minds to verify everything that will come out of them in the coming years. Remember when we compared AI intelligence to PhD students? I think we’re past that.
