You can be a communist or you can be a patriot. You cannot be both.

A man can sit in church for years and still never know the Lord. He can hear sermons, sing hymns, attend meetings, learn Christian language, quote verses, defend doctrine, serve in ministries, and still remain a stranger to the new birth. Church attendance can surround a man with truth, but it cannot raise a dead soul to life. Only God can do that. “Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). This is one of the most terrifying realities in the visible church. Many have become comfortable around holy things without being made holy by God. They are familiar with sermons but unfamiliar with repentance. They know the sound of prayer but not the poverty of spirit. They speak of Christ but do not bow to Him. They have religion in their habits but no resurrection in their hearts. “Having a form of godliness, although they have denied its power” (2 Timothy 3:5). The danger is not merely outside the church. The danger is inside the pew, inside the choir, inside the ministry team, inside the pulpit, inside the home that calls itself Christian while the heart remains unchanged. A man may be known by the church and still be unknown by Christ. “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 7:21). That should make us tremble. Jesus did not warn atheists only. He warned religious people who used His name, claimed spiritual activity, and yet never belonged to Him. Their mouths were full of ministry, but their lives were full of lawlessness. Their confidence was in what they did for Christ, not in whether they had truly been brought to Christ. “And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness” (Matthew 7:23). The new birth is not a mood. It is not a decision card. It is not church culture. It is not being raised in a Christian family. It is not agreeing with Christian morals. It is the supernatural work of God by which a sinner is made alive, given a new heart, brought to repentance, granted faith in Christ, and turned from darkness to light. “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you” (Ezekiel 36:26). Do not comfort yourself merely because you are near the things of God. Judas was near Christ and perished. The Pharisees searched the Scriptures and rejected the One to whom the Scriptures testified. The Israelites saw mighty works and still hardened their hearts. “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves” (2 Corinthians 13:5). The question is not, “Have I been in church?” The question is, “Have I been born again?” Do I hate the sin I once protected? Do I love the Christ I once resisted? Do I bow to the Word I once ignored? Do I grieve over my corruption? Do I run to the cross? Do I bear fruit that only grace can produce? “By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments” (1 John 2:3). A church seat cannot save you. A Christian family cannot save you. Baptism cannot save you. Ministry cannot save you. Knowledge cannot save you. Morality cannot save you. Only Christ can save sinners, and the man who belongs to Christ will not remain dead in the very sins from which Christ came to deliver him. “They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him” (Titus 1:16). So let every churchgoer tremble kindly before God. Let every professing Christian examine himself in the light of Scripture. Let no one hide behind years of attendance while the soul remains untouched by grace. It is better to be disturbed now than damned later. It is better to question false peace than to hear Christ say, “I never knew you.” Religion can place you among the people of God. Only the new birth can place you in Christ.

The longer a man lives in sin, the less sinful sin feels to him. What once troubled the conscience can become normal through repeated practice. The first fall may bring fear, shame, and trembling, but when sin is entertained, excused, defended, and repeated, the heart begins to lose its tenderness. The soul grows familiar with what should have horrified it. “But exhort one another day after day, as long as it is still called Today, so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:13). Sin does not only defile. It deceives. It teaches a man to rename rebellion as weakness, lust as desire, pride as confidence, bitterness as discernment, and compromise as wisdom. The more a person walks in darkness, the easier it becomes to call darkness normal. “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness” (Isaiah 5:20). And then the world helps finish what sin began. When a whole culture celebrates what God condemns, shame begins to disappear. A man no longer blushes because everyone around him is applauding the same corruption. The crowd becomes his comfort, and popularity becomes his false absolution. “Were they ashamed because of the abomination they had done? They certainly were not ashamed, and they did not know how to blush” (Jeremiah 6:15). This is why sin must be fought early, confessed quickly, and brought into the light before the conscience becomes numb. A hardened heart is not formed in one moment. It is formed through many small surrenders, many ignored warnings, and many quiet agreements with the flesh. If sin no longer grieves us, that itself should terrify us. The loss of shame is not freedom. It is a sign that the heart is being trained for judgment unless grace intervenes. “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts” (Psalm 139:23).

The weakest believer in Christ is not less accepted by God than Abraham. Our share in grace does not depend on the strength of our faith, the measure of our usefulness, the maturity of our understanding, or the greatness of our obedience. It rests on Christ alone. The trembling saint who can barely lift his eyes to heaven is justified by the same mercy, clothed in the same righteousness, and held by the same promise as Abraham, the friend of God. “Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness” (Genesis 15:6). Abraham was not accepted because he was worthy in himself. He believed God, and righteousness was counted to him. That same gospel promise now belongs to all who are in Christ by faith, whether their faith feels strong or weak, bold or trembling. “Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham” (Galatians 3:7). This is a great comfort for the weary Christian. The promises of God are not reserved only for the spiritually strong. They belong to every true believer united to Christ, because the blessing promised to Abraham reaches the nations through the Son. “And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise” (Galatians 3:29). So do not measure your standing before God by the weakness you feel within yourself. Look to Christ. The smallest faith, if it rests upon the true Saviour, receives a full Christ, a full righteousness, a full pardon, and a full inheritance. The weakest believer may feel like the least in the family, but he is still in the family. And every child in Christ is an heir of the promise.

There is no untouched life in this fallen world. There is no perfect childhood, perfect family, perfect marriage, perfect work, perfect church, or perfect circle of people who will always understand us, love us rightly, speak wisely, and never fail us. We live among sinners, and we ourselves are sinners. That means even the best earthly gifts carry weakness, disappointment, limitation, and pain. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). But the hope of the believer is not built on finding a perfect life here. Our hope is that we belong to a perfect God who rules over every imperfect part of our lives with flawless wisdom, unchanging faithfulness, and fatherly love. “The LORD is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His deeds” (Psalm 145:17). He does not promise a life without trouble. He promises His presence in trouble. He does not promise that people will never fail us. He promises that He will never leave us. He does not promise that every road will make sense to us. He promises that He is working all things according to His holy purpose. “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God” (Romans 8:28). So we do not need to pretend life is painless. We do not need to deny disappointment. We do not need to make idols out of earthly comfort, human approval, or ideal circumstances. We need to look to the Lord who carries His people through weakness, grief, confusion, and change. “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). This life is not perfect. But our God is. And His strength is enough for every imperfect day He appoints.

The pulpit was never given to men so they could display cleverness, charm, personality, or polished speech. A preacher is not called to entertain minds while consciences sleep. He is sent to bring the Word of God before men with such faithfulness that sinners are exposed, saints are awakened, Christ is exalted, and eternity is made weighty again. “And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God” (1 Corinthians 2:1). The preacher who is more concerned with being admired than being faithful has already lost sight of his calling. God does not send men to the pulpit to make people impressed with the servant. He sends them to proclaim Christ, confront sin, announce mercy, warn of judgment, and call men to repentance and faith. “For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2). The Word of God is not a stage tool. It is fire. It is a hammer. It is a sword. It searches the heart, wounds pride, tears away excuses, and drives the guilty to the only Saviour who can cleanse them. “Is not My word like fire?” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer which shatters a rock?” (Jeremiah 23:29). So let the preacher tremble. Let him pray. Let him die to the praise of men. Let him speak as one who must give an account before Christ. The pulpit is not a platform for performance. It is a place where truth must be proclaimed in the sight of God. “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction” (2 Timothy 4:2). The goal is not applause. The goal is awakened consciences, humbled sinners, strengthened saints, and the glory of Christ.

PRAISE GOD! Christian San Francisco Giants Pitcher Landen Roupp wrote Genesis 9:12-16 on his Pride hat tonight to remind everyone that the rainbow does not belong to the LGBTQ movement; it belongs to the Lord. The rainbow is a reminder of God’s covenant, not sexual degeneracy.

A powerful biblical truth is: You do not overcome negative thoughts by trying to think positive thoughts. You overcome negative thoughts by replacing lies with truth. Jesus never said, "Think positively." He said: "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32) Examples: Fear says: "Something terrible is going to happen." Truth says: "God has not given me a spirit of fear." (2 Timothy 1:7) Lack says: "I don't have enough." Truth says: "My God shall supply all my need." (Philippians 4:19) Rejection says: "Nobody cares about me." Truth says: "I am accepted in the Beloved." (Ephesians 1:6) Failure says: "I will never make it." Truth says: "I can do all things through Christ." (Philippians 4:13) Notice how Jesus handled Satan in the wilderness. He did not argue. He did not use positive affirmations. He did not discuss his feelings. Three times He answered: "It is written..." (Matthew 4) The battlefield of the mind is not won by optimism. It is won by revelation. Romans 12:2 says: "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Not by suppressing thoughts. Not by denying reality. But by replacing old beliefs with God's Word. A practical formula: Negative thought → Find the lie → Replace with Scripture → Speak it aloud repeatedly. Because eventually the loudest voice in your life becomes the strongest belief in your life. That's why faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17). Not merely hearing God's Word once. Hearing it until it becomes more real than the negative thought.

The blood of Christ is of infinite worth, but it was not poured out as an uncertain payment with an uncertain result. The cross was not God making salvation merely possible and then waiting to see who would make it effective. Christ came with a definite mission, for a definite people, with a definite victory. He said, “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep” (John 10:11). Not for a nameless crowd that may or may not be saved, but for His sheep. This is the language of Scripture. He loved the church and gave Himself up for her (Ephesians 5:25). He came to save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). He gave His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45). His death did not merely open a door and leave salvation hanging in the air. His death actually purchased, cleansed, reconciled, and secured those given to Him by the Father. “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me” (John 6:37). That word will matters. Christ did not say they might come if their dead hearts cooperate. He said they will come. The Father gives. The Son receives. The Spirit gives life. The sinner comes because grace has conquered him. If Christ truly bore the wrath of God for a person, then that person cannot finally perish under the same wrath. God does not demand payment twice. The cross is not a failed transaction. It is finished justice, finished mercy, and finished redemption. “He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities” (Isaiah 53:5). Hebrews is clear. “For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified” (Hebrews 10:14). Not tried to perfect. Not hoped to perfect. He has perfected those who are sanctified. This does not weaken the gospel call. We preach Christ freely to all. Every sinner who comes to Him will be received. But the power of the atonement rests not in man’s decision, but in Christ’s finished work. The atonement is not vague. It is not wasted. It is not helpless until man activates it. Christ did not die to make redemption a possibility. He died to redeem. Christ did not attempt salvation. He accomplished it.
