Image-rights seem to be the topic- which is incorrect but worth diving into. The Mbappé image-rights exception is often misunderstood. It wasn't simply Real Madrid changing their rules for him. The blueprint started with Cristiano Ronaldo. In 2009, Madrid paid Manchester United a world-record €94M, giving Ronaldo leverage no player before him had. The club moved away from its traditional 50-50 image-rights structure, allowing him a larger commercial share. But Ronaldo also exposed the downside. In 2015, he transferred much of his personal image-rights business to Mint Media, moving part of his commercial empire outside Madrid's structure. Years later, Spanish authorities investigated undeclared image-rights income linked to those external deals, ending in a settlement. Madrid has constantly those in mind when negotiating - regardless of Real Madrid not being involved in the legal case. But the lesson was obvious: keep a stake in the player's commercial ecosystem. Mbappé arrived under different circumstances. Madrid saved a reported €180M-€220M transfer fee, and much of that value was redirected into his package through bonuses and a more favourable image-rights split. He also arrived as one of the world's biggest commercial athletes, with partnerships spanning Nike, Dior, Hublot, Oakley and EA Sports while simultaneously acknowledging publicly that he won’t endorse/accept all deals on his table. Madrid weren't just signing a footballer. They were signing a global brand. Vinícius' case is different. Madrid turned a €45M teenager into one of the world's best players. Mbappé arrived as a global brand. Vinícius became one. That's why Madrid sees the two situations differently. The three separations between the players: 1) Transfer fee impacting club books 2) Player commercial hierarchy 3) Players work and prestige The deal offered by Real Madrid (still no clear details since) could bump Vinicius image rights into more player-favourable deal but it’s worth understanding that Kylian Mbappe is commercially ahead - from his endorsement deals that seem to be exclusive to him post CR/Messi era to social media following and swing. Image-rights are commercially driven negotiations. Unlike renewal bonus and those demands that are extremely damaging, this is sort of deal where Real Madrid can afford to be more lenient and use previous negotiations without breaking structure and risk future. Let’s see what the final answer will be.

If Vinicius Jr. leaves - it’s only on Vinicius and his camp. I've spent the last few days digging through reports from Spain and abroad. The more I looked into it, the clearer it became. This isn't really about salary. It's about whether Real Madrid are willing to create a precedent. When Mbappé arrived on a free transfer, the money that would've gone to PSG simply went to the player instead. According to Guillem Balagué, that came in the form of a signing bonus worth up to €150M, spread across his contract. That's standard practice. Vinícius' camp now wants Madrid to apply a similar structure to a player who's already under contract. Recent reports place his package at around €30M net per season, including a renewal bonus of roughly €15M. Madrid's latest offer is believed to be around €20-22M net, without any renewal bonus. At first glance, it looks like an €8-10M gap. I don't think that's the real issue. Madrid aren't fighting the salary. They're protecting the precedent. • Signing bonuses reward players for joining. • Renewal bonuses reward players for staying. Once you introduce that, every future renewal starts from the same point. Bellingham, Valverde, Rodrygo and more are all players Madrid has to negotiate. That's the domino effect the club is trying to avoid. One thing that's also worth clearing up. This has nothing to do with the Beckham Law. Professional footballers have been excluded since 2010. Mbappé's tax benefits come from Madrid's regional Law 4/2024 and relate to investment income, not his salary. Vinícius doesn't qualify anyway because he's been a Madrid resident since 2018. My view? If Vinicius leaves, then he’s done it himself. Real Madrid won’t be setting a dangerous precedent and completely compromise their future for one player. I don’t see a way where the club is breaking their structure and maintaining success or long term vision.
