@SanderTordoir In the last years Germany has been blocking a number of econ and political decisions targeting China, but with it's trade surplus gone it now sits neatly in the same boat as the other members. Should make for more effective policy making by the bloc

@kimmonismus Clock is ticking, next 3-5 years will be formative. It always feels like I'm in 'dont look up' when talking about AI with people outside of the bubble. I constantly feel like a gigantic wave is building on the horizon but hardly anyone has the vision to actually see it

Certainly would lower the barrier for European OS models to enter the market, but market there is bleak ofc. simultaneously it could foster an EU push to block such models itself - eventually increasing EU dependency on US frontier

The one upside of this will be that Germany has less incentive to block EU policies targeting China, be they political or economical. With German trade surplus vanishing, the EUs biggest economy falls in line with the rest of the EU, eventually aligning EU wide strategic outlook

China’s exports to Germany increased by 10 percent each year between 2023 and 2025, Chinese customs data shows. German exports to China have not kept pace, falling by 25 percent since January 2024. A couple of points from me in the Wire China on Germany's change of heart. 1/2
