In the prep for this bullpen Ethan and I talked about how the plan was show off the shape early and let the last couple eat. Why? Because there’s no batter in the box and you’re trying to get orgs to see a ceiling. They know he can throw strikes, he did it all spring.

Baseball Savant can show the distribution of swing speeds for every player. Most are around 80-90% of max swing speed. We also have a large enough sample size that shows swinging faster is better (CC: @Tstokey)

Walker’s 80% swing is still way above the league avg bat speed. Why do we preach athletes to lift? To do mobility work? To train? Greg, I’m sure you lifted during your time. Why?

@Pyrellael @JMikeMLB Bingo. It’s the same semantics when discussing lifting weights. No quality trainer is going to tell an athlete to max rep with no regard for form—but we train WITH proper form to get faster/stronger. Training bat speed is no different.
