I feel like what will happen is influx of non developer vibe coders will reduce quality, leading to increase in actual developer hirings. The bar is forever lowered so this will continue to happen until the AI no longer makes mistakes that real devs would catch. Once that happens and software engineering becomes properly commoditised, the software engineering role remains but the tools are forever changed and the substance too, this will probably lead to tons of deprecated roles that won't be replaced once devs leave or are fired. Teams will erode, and any new teams that evolve will be small tight ones. The job becomes more emphasis about orchestration, and just delivering an end goal rather than being about coding itself. Hyper-specific coding niches will still exist in the gaps where AI cannot fill, and those will also be AI assisted roles, then once those are then channeled into models they eventually deprecate also. We will see a ton of slop, loads of dilution of our craft, but we will scrape by for the foreseeable future I think. But this also presents a dilemma for many, more so in Europe rather than the US, where the job market is tight because the floor has been levelled and high IQ cross domain thinkers can easily come and eat our lunch. Based on everything we've seen the laws of scaling are holding, so there is nothing to believe quality won't keep increasing to a point where needing a cleanup specialist also becomes deprecated, then anyone that has a decent head on their shoulder that can orchestrate can do the job, completely messing up supply and demand and leading to instability or revolution in the economy, I personally think the latter is more likely.... But then again who the f knows...

This is my game Taken if you've not been following along built with @threejs with Typescript, it runs in the browser. I just added a whole load of new water effects recently and have been working on water interactions, see the gameplay demo here, I also added a helicopter so I can fly around quicker and in style whilst I test changes. Built with Opus 4.6 and Opus 4.8 I occasionally used Fable and Sol, but the heavy lifting was done by me and the earlier models. Let me know if there is anything here you'd like me to elaborate on. I'm planning on open sourcing the engine I've built once the game is released.
