@martyuk26 @renewablesmiffy Farmers are struggling with costs and find it almost impossible to operate in a profitable manner. So giving some of their marginal land over to solar helps keep their heads above water, it's as simple as that. In many cases it's crops and solar or no crops at all.

@martyuk26 @renewablesmiffy In other places it is installed on gantries above the crops and has been proven to improve crop yields. All depends on how you use them. Not black or white at all.

@martyuk26 @renewablesmiffy As with all things it's not as straightforward as you think not all farmland is suitable for grazing or food crops. Farmland is graded and most solar is put on marginal or lower quality land or on grazing land where it can coexist with the animals if needed.

@Carl__P_ @g__j 1. The reason for the slow implementation of solar and wind is quite simply connections and grid capacity. You can build all you like but if you're not exporting and therfore not being paid all you have is a stranded asset. Grid modernisation is currently underway.

@Carl__P_ @g__j Would you mind posting a source for the CCGT figure? All the sources I can access (inc DESZNs) put the figure at more than double the figure you've provided. Which is still between 30 to 40% more expensive than wind generation. Curious to see where this figure comes from.

@Carl__P_ @g__j 3. The figures are still substantially in favour of green tech. Due to the renewable aspect. Marginal cost pricing skews the market. More fossil fuel makes the market more expensive not less.

@Carl__P_ @g__j You'd be surprised but the overall figures in terms of tax breaks and subsidies are substantially in favour of solar and wind. Fossil fuel companies benefit to the tune of £17.5 billion annually while green initiatives only receive ~£2.33 billion.

@Carl__P_ @g__j 2. However for solar panels, wind turbines, storage solutions etc. we pay once and receive a return on investment. Hence renewable. Not sure how you accomplish that with every unit of fuel you burn but I'd be fascinated to have someone explain it to me.

@Carl__P_ @g__j 1. My search was too narrow, so when all initiatives are taken into account green policies cost £25.8 billion. However if we apply critical thinking skills to this figure we realise that the fossil fuel subsidy is for a commodity that we still pay for at point of use.

Remembrance isn’t just a poppy on a lapel or a minute of silence once a year. It’s a responsibility, to honour their legacy by protecting the values and freedoms they fought for. Our culture. Our freedoms. Our sense of community and national identity. If we stop respecting those things, if tradition loses meaning, if honour and pride are dismissed as outdated, then we risk forgetting what they stood for. We don’t honour the fallen by remembering them once a year, we honour them by living in a way that keeps their sacrifices meaningful. By standing up for our country, our values, and our way of life. He wasn’t crying out of weakness. He was crying because he remembers the cost of forgetting.

@Epictetus2001 @KateFantom @RebelHQ Just a few points to consider, it's not 2022. EVs are better & the infrastructure has improved. I know you want to air your viewpoint but it's somewhat irrelevant. Don't know which Leaf you had but the car you were driving & the year you were driving it were significant factors.

@Mminimen @SkyNews 2. and put profit and shareholder value first. The taxpayers can fund maintenance while the shareholders get their dividends. So either way the country and taxpayers lose because some politician decades ago put short term gain ahead of their country. /End.

@Mminimen @SkyNews 1. I know everyone has opinions but here's my 2 pence. Countries should never privatise critical infrastructure. Private companies always put their shareholders first and if they believe the government will pick up the tab since it is well critical, they'll skimp on maintenance

@Mminimen @SkyNews We've always used electricity and to be honest it's the easiest piece of infrastructure to upgrade, maintain and extend. We're just reaping the chaos decades of under investment creates. It's just expensive and takes time to do and we'll experience more of this in the meantime.
