Spiritual abuse is not simply disagreeing over doctrine. It is using God’s name, Scripture, or spiritual authority to control, intimidate, shame, silence, manipulate, or dominate others rather than lovingly leading them to Christ. Jesus confronted spiritual abuse throughout His ministry. He rebuked the religious leaders because they “tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders” while refusing to help them (Matthew 23:4). He warned against leaders who “shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces” by keeping others from knowing God (Matthew 23:13). He overturned the tables of those who had turned His Father’s house into a place of exploitation instead of prayer (Matthew 21:12–13). He condemned leaders who loved titles, recognition, and power more than humble service (Matthew 23:5–12). Jesus never used truth as a weapon to crush sincere seekers. He spoke the truth in love. He confronted hypocrisy, defended the vulnerable, welcomed the broken, and invited people into freedom. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control (Galatians 5:22–23). When someone claims to represent Jesus while consistently displaying the opposite, they are misrepresenting His character. The mark of a true follower of Jesus is not winning arguments or exercising control. It is becoming more like Christ in both truth and love.

"God can't become a man." That was one of my first objections as a Muslim. I thought I was defending God's greatness. In reality, I was limiting Him. Think about it. God can create a universe out of nothing. Split the sea. Raise the dead. Form Adam from dust. But becoming a man? That's where we draw the line? The issue was never that God couldn't do it. The issue was that I couldn't accept that He loved us enough to. Because if God became man, then He didn't stay distant. He stepped into the dirt. Into the suffering. Into the blood. That's not weakness. That's authority wearing flesh. That's glory with a heartbeat. And when I finally cried out, "God, if You're real, show me who You are," I wasn't met by a God far away. I met a Savior with scars. A God holy enough to judge sin, yet loving enough to enter our world and carry it Himself. Emmanuel doesn't mean "God far off." It means "God with us." And He is still alive.
