Principles for raising children; 1-Don’t compare your children- “Why can’t you be more like your sister. 2- A sin forgiven or a mistake atoned for; can’t be used in a conversation again. 3-Calling people names is powerful stuff both positive and negative. 4- Don’t use names that hold your kids in something. “You will always be my little girl,” or “You are such a klutz.” 5-Never looked shocked when your kids tell you something. “Dad I want to try marijuana.” 6- Consistency – Your repetition is your reputation. 7- The husband and wife need to have a united front when dealing with their children. 8- Parents must not paint the other spouse as the bad guy, or have mistimed mercy. 9- Discipline is not punishment. Discipline says, “I love you to much to let you continue to have that attitude.” Punishment says, “You did something wrong now you will be penalized for it.” Punishment is a way to get you back for the discomfort you caused me. 10- Delayed discipline is ineffective. Reprimanding a child two days after their offense is worthless correction. 11- Children must be able to count on your consistent response every time. 12- Correct attitude before it becomes behavior. This teaches them 2 things: A- to manage their attitude. B- that God cares what you think more than what you do.
