Day 3 | GEF-7 Project Ministerial Tour Today, the GEF-7 Ministerial Tour by Hon Dr Evelyn Ndlovu continued at the Mutiusinazita Community Seed Bank in Mukanwa Village, Ward 27, Buhera District. One of the project’s major success stories is the establishment of a thriving community managed tree nursery and orchard. The nursery produces both indigenous and exotic tree species. To date, the nursery has successfully produced 5,200 seedlings. #CommunityDevelopment #Environment #ClimateAction #Trees

Day 2| GEF-7 Project Ministerial Tour. The Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, Honourable Evelyn Ndlovu visited Nenhowe in Chimanimani District, where once deep gullies are being rehabilitated through restoration works that are reducing soil erosion, improving water infiltration and bringing the landscape back to life. The project has also mobilised 360 community members, 83% of them women, to lead restoration efforts and build resilience against recurring droughts. #GEF7 #LandscapeRestoration #ClimateAction #environment #CommunitySupport #Zimbabwe

The Hon. Minister also toured the #GEF7 Project at Madzivire Primary School in Ward 24, Bikita District, where the project is transforming the school into a hub for climate resilience and community development. Key achievements include the installation of an automated weather station and solar-powered water infrastructure, farmer capacity building, the establishment of a seedling nursery, and the training of Environmental Clubs in schools across the project area to nurture the next generation of environmental stewards.

Today, the Forestry Commission proudly participated in the Gwambe Ward 2 Agricultural Show in Bulilima District, where our Director General, Mr George Manyumwa, represented the Guest of Honour, the Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, Honourable Evelyn Ndlovu. As part of our commitment to sustainable land management and climate-smart agriculture, we planted 40 trees at Gwambe School and donated beehives to outstanding prize winners. Trees and bees are powerful allies in building resilient farming communities. While trees help restore degraded landscapes, improve soil health and combat climate change, beekeeping provides farmers with an additional source of income through honey production while supporting crop pollination and biodiversity.
