@itsBrianWallace @money_cruncher It’s up to you to describe what you donated and come up with the value. If you are claiming enough itemized deductions to make it more beneficial than taking the standard deduction, take pictures of the “thrift store” donations to support the value you’re putting on the receipt.

@TheCatholicEngr In general, if Kansas is taxing you as a resident for all of 2025 taxing the income related to “taking out stock”, they should also allow a credit based on the CA tax so that you’re not taxed twice on the same income.

@money_cruncher California’s super-aggressive Franchise Tax Board will still come after you, after you move, for deferred comp payments (stock options, RSUs, etc.) by arguing they are subject to CA taxes because the services giving rise to those payments were performed while you lived in CA.

@bonchieredstate Just wait until all those out of state volunteers, including firefighters, and their employers get letters from the CA Franchise Tax Board explaining they owe CA income taxes on the wages they were paid while “working” in CA.
