Summer has failed to arrive in the High Arctic. Danish Meteorological Institute data show June 2026 averaged -2.2C (28F), by far the coldest June in record books extending back to 1958. And the cold continued through July. By July 27, the monthly mean stood at just 0.01C, effectively freezing. Temperatures repeatedly fell below 0C during what should be the warmest part of the Arctic year, when readings normally climb to 2C or higher. A review of the DMI archive reveals no colder summer run, with 2026 tracking at the bottom of the entire 69-year series. While headlines warn of an overheating Arctic, the region north of 80N has been the coldest we've ever known it in archives dating back to 1958.

Hi again, Brian. Meteorologist here! 🌪️⛈️ You have opinions; but I have data. Let's look at it. Tornadoes are not at all unusual in Wisconsin. They average more than 20 per year (including the weak F/EF0s which radar have made easier to detect and count since the early 1990s). Since real-time data collection began in 1954, there has been no measurable increase in the number of F/EF1–5 tornadoes in the state. In fact, the number of them have declined significantly. Between 1961 and 1990, Wisconsin observed 16.8 F/EF1–5 tornadoes per year, on average. Since 1994, they average 11.5, a 31.6% decrease. The atmosphere was primed for tornadoes today in the Appleton area. Based on the 7:00 AM CT sounding from Green Bay (GRB), the 0–1 km storm-relative helicity (SRH) was 93 m² s⁻² (modest) and the 0–3 km SRH was 350 m² s⁻² (very favorable for rotating supercells). The 0–6 km shear at GRB was 52 knots, which was also highly favorable for rotation. MUCAPE was almost 5,000 J/kg, indicating strong updraft potential. Good luck linking all of these factors to a one part per 10,000 increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) concentration over the last 175 years. cc: @Krassenstein

Do legacy media outlets typically use headlines involving the make of a car in a crash or is that only for Tesla? It would be one thing if the self-driving malfunctioned but the crash was purely human-induced.
